Do you build with lugs/do you build fillet brazed bikes?
This one is easy to answer: no to both. I don't have anything in particular against either method of joining tubes - both are plenty strong, plenty lightweight, look way cool, etc, etc. I'm certainly not going to claim that tig welding is mechanically or aesthetically superior. Here's the bottom line:
-Fillet brazed and lugged bikes require a LOT more work to make clean looking and strong joints. This is why custom lugged bikes commonly go for $2000+. Fillet brazing is a little bit less work, but filing down the joints (an unfinished fillet brazed joint looks kinda like someone put your bike together with gold-colored caulk - not good) takes plenty of time, and hence I'd have to charge more money to make it worth my while.
-I already know how to weld - really really well.
-I'm looking to provide a great ride and a great value, not particularly to make something super snazzy that'll look good sitting in front of the coffee shop.

If you're dead set on a lugged or fillet brazed frame, there are tons of great builders out there who specialize in them. I'd be happy to refer you to one or more of them - just ask!
